Waterford Institute of Technology has promised to deliver 600 jobs in the south-east of Ireland and expects to double its research funding under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme.
The ambitious plans were revealed on 6 March when the institute officially opened the €5-million NetLabs research building at its West Campus. Ruairi Quinn, the minister for education, said, at the launch, that Waterford had created an ecosystem of education, innovation and creation in the region.
The building will house the institute’s Telecommunications Software and Systems Group, which has received research funding worth €10 million over the past five years, the institute said.
