Materials research centre wins ESA funding

The Irish Centre for Composites Research has received a €240,000 research award from the European Space Agency to develop new composite materials for use in space.

The award, announced on 10 March, is from the agency’s Clean Space initiative which seeks to include a green element in space technology.

One goal is to develop materials that burn up more completely when re-entering the atmosphere. The composites centre is hosted by the University of Limerick.
