The government has commissioned the RV Tonn in support of the country’s marine-mapping programme, known as Infomar, with the vessel working under an agenda set by the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources.
Officially launched on 26 March, the vessel will conduct offshore surveying for six to eight months a year.
The eight-metre vessel’s name means wave in Irish.
