Irish company Enbio has opened a space technology centre in Clonmel with €1.5 million from the European Space Agency.
The company announced on 14 April that it had developed a specialised metal-coating process that will provide an external protective layer for the Agency’s Solar Orbiter mission due for launch in 2017.
The centre will employ 12 people and is bidding for involvement in future agency contracts, Enbio said. It maintains a research group based in Dublin which employs five PhD graduates. It is also developing its process for use in the oil and gas industry and in other areas requiring specialised protective coatings.
