Minister restates ambition to increase research spending

The minister for communications has restated the government’s goal to increase total investment in R&D in Ireland to 2.5 per cent of Gross National Product.

Denis Naughten made his comments at an event on 25 October at Croke Park, where the Adapt Centre for Digital Content Technology showcased some of its research into intelligent systems.

The drive to reach the investment target would be led by the private sector he said. It would require collaboration between higher education and commercial organisations. Innovation is central to Ireland’s continued economic recovery, Naughten said.
