Facebook confirms data analytics lab for Ireland

Facebook has confirmed plans to build a €200-million data centre in County Meath, with an expected opening date of early 2018.

The Facebook data centre will help consolidate the data sector in Ireland, the Insight Centre for Data Analytics said in a statement on 25 January.

There have been some planning delays and local opposition to the huge project, which will see the construction of an initial 31,000 square-metre centre to handle data from the company’s one billion customers. But planning has now been approved for a second building.
