Ireland wins €275m from Horizon 2020

Ireland has had good success with Horizon 2020 funding so far this year, winning almost €275 million over the first five months of 2016 to the end of May, the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation has said.

Of this, the higher education system accounted for €172.5m, according to a statement released by the department on 15 July. Companies received €79.2m, which includes €54.3m for small and medium-sized businesses.

The quality of Irish research was an important factor in the high yield of funding going to the SMEs, said the department’s junior minister John Halligan.
