Cherenkov workshop planned for August

Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies is to run a workshop to encourage the government to adopt membership of the Cherenkov Telescope Array.

The workshop, planned for Monday 28 August at the Institutes offices in Burlington Road, follows an earlier meeting last January in Armagh when it was agreed to start a group in Ireland to advance Irish engagement with the Cherenkov consortium.

The array consortium involves 1,200 scientists working in 200 institutes in 32 countries. It looks at cosmic rays that strike the atmosphere and produce a weak light that can be studied as a way to understand the rays and their origins.
