Four large-scale research centres announced last May have been formally launched by the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.
The centres have a combined budget of €114 million over the next six years channelled through funding body Science Foundation Ireland. The government will contribute €74m and another €40m will come from the industrial partners involved in the centres, the foundation said in a statement.
Staff at the centres will participate in 80 planned research collaborations with industry and will pursue both basic and applied research, the foundation said.
