Cross-border energy-efficiency project receives €2.9m

The European Union has backed an Irish researcher who aims to reduce the high energy costs of producing and distributing clean water.

Aonghus McNabola of Trinity College Dublin will be the technical leader for Redawn, an EU-backed research project that will use innovative ways to build greater energy efficiency into water distribution networks, the college said in a statement released on 11 September.

Organisations producing and delivering clean water are the fourth heaviest consumers of energy in the EU and energy savings in the water industry could have a major impact, it said.
