Ireland is expected to complete the transition to an open research environment within 18 months, according to a roadmap launched by scientists and funders.
The roadmap was developed by the National Open Research Forum, following the group’s inaugural meeting in February 2017. The forum consists of higher education and research representatives, who set out to provide a basis on which Ireland will migrate to an open exchange of research findings.
Gemma Irvine, head of policy and strategic planning at Ireland’s Higher Education Authority, said the forum had succeeded in its task. “This is the end of the beginning,” she said, adding that the publication of the roadmap marked the first step in the second phase of the transition process.
