Irish universities have called for a €117-million investment to deal with rising student numbers
The Irish Universities Association has told a parliamentary committee that the funding problems plaguing higher education institutions are going to get worse unless the government increases its spending.
The association provided a pre-budget submission to the Oireachtas Committee on Budgetary Oversight on 17 September. The association’s director-general Jim Miley said there had been small increases for higher education in the previous two budgets but that most of this had been “mopped up” by continually rising student numbers.
