Government assembles dedicated research department

SFI will change hands as higher and further education find new home in coalition deal

The incoming Irish government will, for the first time, establish a department with responsibility for the funding of the higher education sector and for research and innovation.

The department is part of the complex deal that allowed the creation of a three-party coalition involving Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and the Green party. The deal was struck on 15 June.
