Climate features prominently in Irish funding calls, but the country keeps failing to meet targets
The Irish Environmental Protection Agency’s latest funding announcement has awarded €10.5 million to climate research. The declaration follows Science Foundation Ireland’s commitment to climate-related work in its research centres and challenge-based programmes.
In October, the Irish budget for 2022 set aside €11m for climate research, including decarbonisation and sustainability. Furthermore, the Irish Climate Research Coordination Group, a body set up by the EPA in 2014 to coordinate climate research in Ireland, has identified 84 climate-related research awards with a total budget commitment of €21m in 2020.
