Survey identifies ethnic pay gap in Irish universities

Higher Education Authority survey also finds ethnic minorities more likely to have experienced discrimination

Higher education staff from ethnic minorities are more likely to earn less money and be on temporary contracts than other staff, according to a new report. The findings are based on a survey of 3,323 higher education staff carried out by the Higher Education Authority of Ireland.

The HEA report found that 66 per cent of staff from minority ethnic groups were earning less than €60,000 a year, compared with 38 per cent of white Irish respondents. Similarly, only 17 per cent of ethnic minority respondents were earning over €75,000, compared with 38 per cent for white Irish respondents.
