Trinity to increase PhD stipends for ‘small proportion’ of students

Move follows Ireland-wide complaints that budding academics are underpaid

Trinity College Dublin will increase PhD stipends for its internal postgraduate research schemes to €25,000 a year, the university has announced.

The previous stipends, which were priced at between €6,500 and €18,000, are set to increase from September 2023 as part of the move. The university said it had to admit that many PhD researchers had faced “enormous financial pressures” due to the lack of a “stipend that kept pace with the cost of living in Dublin”.
