Frascati to host giant nuclear fusion experiment

Tokamak facility expected to bring 1,500 jobs to the Rome region and help counter climate change

The Divertor Tokamak Test, a giant fusion research facility part-funded by the European Investment Bank, is to be based in Frascati, near Rome, Italy’s energy agency has announced.

The device is intended to help reach the goal of producing safe, clean nuclear fusion energy by 2050. The decision to locate it in Frascati was announced on 19 September by Italy’s National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development, ENEA.
