Researchers hold their breath as Italy's parliament votes on abolishing restrictions on animal testing

Italy’s researchers are bracing themselves for two crucial verdicts on the governance of animal experiments, with the country’s parliament preparing for a decisive vote on the issue.

By the end of 2020, the parliament will have to decide on whether to abolish additional restrictions imposed on the EU animal research directive of 2010. This decision is highly anticipated and follows several years of gridlock, after senators who backed tighter restrictions blocked efforts to hold a vote.
