Academia is poised to boost the economy through science, tech and digitisation, rectors say
Italy should spend more on developing scientific competence, technology and human capital, if the country wants to increase its chances of a strong socioeconomic recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic, according to its rectors.
A meeting in Rome, organised by the Italian Conference of University Rectors (CRUI), heard that universities should have a starring role in this recovery, with increased levels of research funding. Ferruccio Resta, president of CRUI and rector of Politecnico di Milano, described an urgent need for knowledge-based policies.
