Matchmaking scheme seeks to solve dearth of PhDs in Italy

                   

Online platform will help shape industrial PhD programmes that have struggled to attract candidates

Italy’s research ministry is trialling a matchmaking service for PhD candidates, universities and businesses, after attracting less than half the number of researchers it wanted for a new scheme last year.

In 2022-23, the Ministry of Universities and Research offered its first bursaries for innovative joint PhDs between universities and enterprises. But the initial call received only 1,708 applications for the 5,000 available positions.
