Italy’s plan to boost PhDs may be coming good

      

‘Doctorates of national interest’ are now widespread and growing, meeting hears

Italy has long suffered from a lack of PhDs. In recent years, significant investment has been sunk into trying to mitigate this problem, notably via the introduction of ‘doctorates of national interest’ (dottorati di interesse nazionale, or DINs).

An event organised by the Conference of Italian University Rectors in Rome earlier this month heard that DINs may now be delivering.
