Netherlands doubles public-private research budget

€2.7bn set aside to trigger private funding and boost knowledge and innovation

The Dutch government and industry partners are planning to invest about €4.7 billion into mission-driven public-private research in 2020—almost twice as much as it did this year.

The government is set to contribute around €2.7bn to this amount, with another €2bn expected to come from industry. The funding is set out in the Knowledge and Innovation Covenant 2020-2023, a plan scheduled to be signed by government officials, top sector representatives, universities and research institutes on 11 November in The Hague.
