Eindhoven University of Technology has redirected €100 million of its research money to set up a centre on artificial intelligence.
The Eindhoven Artificial Intelligence Systems Institute, expected to be launched on 2 September, will eventually house 50 scientists who will work on designing smarter self-driving cars and care robots.
The university said in a statement that the focus of AI research was shifting from pure data analysis to real-world systems such as autonomous vehicles and robots. This is bringing the field closer to research areas that traditionally belong to the university’s core business.
