Geo-energy processes could become smarter and cheaper thanks to a facility in Rijswijk
The Rijswijk Centre for Sustainable Geo-energy has officially opened its doors. Located at a former drilling test site of the oil company Shell, the facility will offer research groups the opportunity to test drilling methods, carry out high-pressure experiments and simulate conditions in the Dutch bedrock.
The centre will be funded with approximately €2 million over the next two years by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate, the province of South Holland and the municipality of Rijswijk. External parties who experiment at the centre will either have to fund their own researchers or hire the centre’s staff, according to programme manager Jan Brouwer.
