Big data brings big opportunities, but researchers are all too familiar with its downside: the ‘data deluge’—the sheer avalanche of information they must organise, archive and make available in a systematic manner.
Last autumn, the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology received a prize for its efforts in this area. It archives data and publications so efficiently that ZonMw, the main public funder of medical research in the Netherlands, gave it special recognition.
