Dutch academy praises flexibility grown from Covid-19 crisis

New ways of working should be cherished but increased inequalities must be tackled, KNAW says

The Covid-19 pandemic has made public research in the Netherlands more flexible and quicker to respond—but it has also exacerbated inequalities, the KNAW academy of sciences has found.

In a landmark report collated to draw lessons from the coronavirus pandemic, the KNAW said that the Netherlands must not “go back to the old normal”. It said that the pandemic had created new modes of working, such as faster funding and more flexibility in academic life, which ought to be cherished.
