Rathenau Institute misses external funding target

Dutch research policy advisory body reveals decline in external income but funding boost from government

The Rathenau Institute, which advises the Dutch government on research policy, is struggling to meet its external funding target, its annual report has revealed.

The report, published in late May, shows that financing from external sources made up just 13 per cent of the institute’s total income in 2022, down from 18 per cent in 2021 and seven percentage points below the institute’s target of 20 per cent.
