Library expert urges researchers to understand how publishing works

Jan Erik Frantsvåg, consultant for open access at the University of Tromsø’s library, has told researchers to take the initiative in regaining control of the research publication process.

Many researchers hope the transition to open access will break the power of huge publishers such as Elsevier and Springer, which since the advent of the internet have strengthened their hold on research publishing and raised their prices.
