Academy seeks bigger focus on blue-sky research

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has recommended an increase of 0.25 percentage points in state funding of research and a doubling of government funds disbursed by the Swedish Research Council.  

In a wide-ranging response to the Swedish government’s proposed research budget for 2020, the academy also suggests an annual forum to discuss politics and research in an effort to reduce the detrimental effects of ‘fake news’.
