Higher education institutions welcome government’s promise to end ‘reprioritisation’ spending cuts
Universities Denmark, the association that represents the eight Danish universities, has said that the government’s draft budget provides a good basis for negotiations.
However, the association expressed concern that the bill had failed to prioritise the continuation of the ‘taximeter’ system, under which study programmes that receive the lowest funding per full-time-equivalent student get 5,000 Danish kroner (€670) extra per student each year. The system benefits the social sciences and humanities, and some observers have warned that if it is not continued, some kr290 million will be cut from educational budgets.
