Concerns grow over diminished research freedom

Opinion barometer shows Norway’s academics feel increasingly constrained and silenced

The Co-Determination Barometer, an annual measurement that determines the levels to which Norwegian employees believe they can influence their organisations, indicates researchers worry about academic freedom.

The latest barometer results show that university staff feel their professional freedom and their involvement in how universities are run is dwindling. The barometer included the Norwegian Researchers’ Association, the Forskerforbundet, as one of four case studies in its latest edition.
