Swedish women still win fewer medicine grants

Female success rate lower and grant size smaller than that of male counterparts

Women continue to receive fewer grants in medicine and health and are awarded smaller amounts of money than men by the Vetenskapsrådet, the Swedish Research Council.

The council’s latest funding data, covering its 2020 spending on medicine and health, showed a 10 per cent decrease in the number of grants awarded to women. While there were fewer grants made overall, the number of grants awarded to men only fell by 2.7 per cent.
