Norway’s ethics committee recommends overhaul of NLA’s appointments procedure and mission statement
The NLA University College, a Christian higher education institution in Norway, should ensure staff are not limited by its faith-based values to ensure research autonomy, the country’s ethics committee has said.
An inquiry by the Norwegian National Research Ethics Committee for the Social Sciences and Humanities (NESH) criticised NLA for “binding staff to faith-based obligations”. The university’s stated traditional Christian values, outlined in its mission statement, risk having a restrictive impact on hiring practices and research, the committee said.
