Group to scrutinise threats to academic freedom

Norwegian government fears researchers may refrain from sharing opinions because of potential public backlash

A group of six Norwegian researchers from different disciplines has been tasked with investigating the level of academic freedom in Norway and to propose law changes if needed.

Henrik Asheim, Norway’s minister for education, convened the group because he is concerned that early career scientists may be reluctant to take part in the public debate and communicate their findings because they could face strong public backlash, he said.
