Concerns grow that funding model focused on hot topics could create institutional insularity
An association of 38 Swedish universities has raised concerns about a government plan to award public research funding based on political priorities.
The group protested against the new financing model, which will come into force in two years’ time. The so-called quality-based resource allocation model will be used to spend around 13.6 billion Swedish kronor (€1.3bn) in additional public research funding until 2024.
