Swedish Research Council, Forte, Formas and Vinnova will fund completely open outlets
Sweden’s four main research funders have declared that they will pay for publications in completely open access outlets, starting next year.
The announcement is the latest pivot by major European funders away from traditionally subscription-based, ‘reader-pays’ publishers. Several of these have been transitioning to open access, and currently have a mix of subscription and open journals. But the pace of change has been too slow for many open access advocates.
