Finland spends big on universities’ development

Funding pot of €46 million hoped to promote internationalisation of education and research

Finnish research and culture minister Petri Honkonen has granted €40 million to universities and €6m to universities of applied sciences for their strategic development.

The money is expected to be spent on initiatives that will serve national research policy goals, such as the internationalisation of education and research, the research ministry said. However, the ministry confirmed that the funds are intended for universities’ internal and strategic work, rather than being spent on government-guided projects.
