Finnish universities unhappy with planned R&D funding

Academics fear extra funding will only benefit industrial research

Budget proposals from the Finnish ministry of finance, which will provide an increase of around €260 million in central government R&D funding, have failed to satisfy the representative body, Universities Finland (UNIFI).

UNIFI insists that the additional funding will be targeted mainly towards companies and has demanded that more funding be provided for doctoral education.
