Posthumous Nobel awarded

The late Ralph Steinman, a Canadian immunologist, has been awarded the Nobel Prize in medicine despite it being policy not to award the prizes posthumously. The Nobel Committee announced on 3 October that because news of Steinman’s death had not yet reached them when they announced the prize, they were not breaking the policy.
