Privately funded professors set trend in Denmark’s universities

A privately funded chair at the University of Copenhagen signals a new trend in Denmark that could help attract top research talent.

The not-for-profit Villum Foundation, which mainly supports research activities in the natural and technical sciences, has donated 38 million kroner (€5.1m) to fund a permanent professorship for quantum physicist Charles Marcus, whom the university has recruited from Harvard University in the United States.
