Finland wins fewer overseas patents

The number of patents awarded to Finnish companies and associations in Europe and the United States fell by 14 per cent between 2010 and 2011, according to data from Statistics Finland. The number of institutions that won patents also decreased. Domestic patent levels have remained about the same and nearly half of all applications came from firms in metal and engineering industries.
