EU offers funds to cope with AstraZeneca layoffs
The European Commission has proposed giving Sweden €4.3 million to help 700 workers find jobs after they were made redundant by drug-maker AstraZeneca. Sweden applied for support from the Commission’s European Globalisation Adjustment Fund to offset the loss of 987 jobs at the company. The Commission’s proposal, announced on 16 July, is awaiting approval from the European Parliament and Council of Ministers.
