Austrian government moves science to economics ministry

The Austrian government has transferred the ministry of science and research into the ministry of economics and family affairs.

The move was made by newly elected conservative-social democrat coalition government, which was sworn in on 16 December. The change will see the Reinhold Mitterlehner, the new minister for economy, family and youth, also taking on Austria’s science and research agenda.

He said in a statement, published by the ministry for science and research, that the country wanted to explore the opportunities provided by combining science and business, and generate collaborations between the two that would improve applied research.
