Three Spanish government agencies have agreed to co-manage an oceanographic fleet comprising 12 vessels.
The deal was made between Spain’s Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, the State Agency Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), and the Spanish Institute of Oceanography.
The jointly-managed fleet, named Flotpol, would make savings of €15 million between 2015 to 2020, by bringing together various publicly-owned or operated vessels and overseeing their management, the organisations say. A large proportion of the savings are expected to be made through better management of fuel, and the use of a single joint-tender.
