Spain leads in the number of small and medium-sized businesses benefitting from Horizon 2020’s SME instrument, which funds companies to speed up the commercialisation of products and services.
Out of the 827 companies selected in the instrument’s first phase—an assessment of the feasibility of business proposals—and the second phase—developing the proposal through pilot studies—154 come from Spain, the country’s research ministry said in a statement on 1 April. When adding together the instrument’s three calls in 2014, Spain has the most companies benefiting in both phases, the statement said.
However, in terms of funding received, Spain ranks third, behind the UK and the Netherlands.
