Science crowdfunding launched in Switzerland

A Swiss crowdfunding platform has launched a specific science channel that will allow the public to fund research projects and innovation.

The Wemakeit website, which supports products and ideas by Swiss people or companies, announced the creation of a Science Booster channel on 22 November. All funds raised by the public for the research projects listed will be matched by the Gebert Rüf Foundation, which supports innovation in the country. The foundation will spend a total of 225,000 Swiss francs (€210,000).

The website will host crowdfunding initiatives for small and short-term projects, according to the people behind the Science Booster channel. “The crowdfunding platform offers young and innovative scientists the opportunity to formulate their first scientific ideas and explain them to a wider audience,” said Mirko Bischofberger, one of the channel’s managers.
