Demand for research grants from the Swiss National Science Foundation held steady in 2016, the funding agency has said.
The SNSF awarded CHF 937 million (€858m) to about 3,200 projects involving more than 14,000 researchers in 2016, it announced on 17 May.
Project grants received the biggest allocation, CHF 435m. The SNSF received proposals for 4 per cent fewer projects in 2016 than in the previous year, it said, but the amount of funding requested increased by 3.2 per cent to almost CHF 1.1 billion. The success rate for project applications was 40 per cent.
