€70 million ship intended to conduct multidisciplinary research

The Spanish government has authorised the Spanish Institute of Oceanography to contract for a new €70 million research ship, as part of a plan to revive investment in and results from Spain’s R&D system.

The ship will enable the institute to expand its capacity for global multidisciplinary research, the government said on 15 December, adding that at present Spain has only one research ship with polar capacity.
