Spanish government sets out €1.5bn recovery plan for R&D

Plan will put €396m into research and innovation in 2020

Spain’s president Pedro Sánchez has unveiled a plan for just over €1 billion in public grants to stimulate the country’s research and innovation sector in the wake of Covid-19, with an additional €508 million in loans to innovative companies.

“Spain cannot continue turning its back on science,” Sánchez said when presenting the plan on 9 July, adding that it would support action on sustainability, help to develop a more resilient economy and prepare the country for future emergencies.
