Portugal’s R&D spending hits highest level ever

R&D investment hits €2.98bn in 2019, with ‘significant’ increase from private sector

The Portuguese government has reported that R&D spending in the country reached its highest level ever in 2019, topping €2.98 billion.

The figure, which represents 1.41 per cent of GDP, is €218m more than in 2018, the FCT Foundation for Science and Technology, a part of the Portuguese Ministry of Science and Technology, announced on 13 August.
